Modern furniture has long since surpassed its primary function.
Coquille Sofa for Salone Satellite 2014
Soft as an embrace, a lush form to relax in. Coquille sofa is all about comfort, a form which is nothing but inviting.
But not formless at all, just the opposite. A shell-like form with strong lines, a sofa with a marine character all of it's own.
- It's an enveloping feeling, isn't it? exclaims Markus Johansson. I started off with the idea of a garment, which in itself gives form to a shape. I've been toying with inspiration found among mussels, shells, and I've been working with different levels of softness and hardness to render Coquille as comfortable as possible.
The different layers of polyether foam are topped off by soft down to give both a firm support and a yielding softness.
Markus Johansson has been focused on sophisticated designs with striking simplicity since he graduated from HDK (School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg, Sweden) 2011.
