CHANG RESTAURANT by Loft Buro
Restaurant Chang Interior has a contemporary interior design style using distinctive traditional elements from Vietnam.
The Vietnamese concept is perceptible in all interior details as bright accents on armchairs and chairs, plenty of natural wooden surface texture, simple and precious shapes, presence of traditional ornaments on countertops and Buddhist prayers drums.
The aim was to create a Vietnamese oasis in the center of the city historical part. Cozy, traditional, light and youth oriented meanwhile.
The main element of the interior has become the Buddha's head in the center of the hall. It is three meters high and made in concrete. The wall, where the head is displayed, bears a resemblance to a wall of an ancient temple lost in the jungle.
On the opposite side of the Buddha head is placed the open kitchen with a bar counter, where you can oversee the work of the pho’-station. On the right and left sides of the Buddha’s head are located prayer drums made of concrete: it’s where Buddhist mantras are written.
On the ceiling are hanged metal lamps which resemble Vietnamese fans. Light sources, located on the ceiling too, are directed toward them, so palm leaves shadows appear on the floor and give the impression to be the tropics. There are also refined reproductions of paintings (by the famous Vietnamese artist Nguyen Thanh Bin) which decorate the bistro walls.
Tables are decorated by engraved mandalas, sacral schematic images used in Buddhist and Hindu religious practices. At the end of the hall, before to enter the terrace, there’s a wall with a picture of banana palm leaves, which link the main space and the terrace.
The singular element of the bistro-restaurant is the bar station on the terrace. It is located in the middle of the glazed terrace and belongs to two restaurants: Chichiko and Chang (Georgian and Vietnamese cuisines).
To convey a Vietnamese atmosphere, natural materials were used such as wood, stone, but also concrete, gypsum and metal. All interior elements were made by Ukrainian manufacturers according to Loft Buro’s sketches.
